چکیده

Supplementary energy dissipation has proved to be an effective way of protecting structures from the disastrous effects earthquakes and been used in last decades both new existing constructions. In this regard, various procedures for design damping system seismic retrofit buildings have formulated over years, mainly focused on reinforced concrete (RC) constructions, which represent largest part stock many seismic-prone countries. The study deals with assessment a displacement-based procedure proportioning recently proposed literature RC framed buildings, goal establishing good practice application steel as well. method was applied three case-study frames, regular plan elevation, were assumed being representative old designed without consideration requirements. performed by using chevron braces equipped dampers elastic-perfectly plastic behavior. aimed at defining properties achieve target performance terms maximum lateral deflection specific level intensity. effectiveness reliability eventually assessed evaluating upgraded static dynamic non-linear analyses.

Seismic Evaluation with Shear Walls and Braces for Buildings

Abstract—R.C.C. buildings with dual structural system consisting of shear walls (or braces) and moment resisting frames have been widely used to resist lateral forces during earthquakes. The dual systems are designed to resist the total design lateral force in proportion to their lateral stiffness. The response of combination of braces and shear walls has not yet been studied. The combination m...

Evaluating the Seismic Performance of Steel-SMA Hybrid Braces

The seismic performance of hybrid braces composed of steel and shape memory alloy (SMA) was investigated in this paper. Six types of hybrid braces were used, constituted by SMA content of 0, 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100%. A nonlinear dynamic analysis was performed under El Centro earthquake records, with the maximum acceleration of 0.6g and 0.9g. Our results showed that the seismic performance, i.e....

Experimental Investigation on Seismic Behavior of Steel Truss-RC Column Hybrid Structure with Steel Diagonal Braces

This paper aims to provide an experimental support on seismic performance evaluation of the steel braced truss-RC (reinforced concrete) column hybrid structure, which could be applied as the air-cooled supporting structural system in large-capacity thermal power plants located in strong earthquake prone regions. A series of pseudo-dynamic tests (PDTs) and quasi-static tests (QSTs) were performe...

The Effect of Analysis Methods on the Response of Steel Dual-System Frame Buildings for Seismic Retrofitting

In the present paper, the focus is on the evaluation of steel dual-system frame buildings using four main types of structural analysis (Linear Static, Linear Dynamic, Nonlinear Static and Nonlinear Dynamic Analyses) with regard to "Seismic Rehabilitation Code for Existing Buildings in Iran" (based on FEMA 273 and 356) where the first two authors of the article tend to follow the previous work (...

seismic evaluation and retrofitting of a rfc structure with flexural frame and shear wall using steel braces by nonlinear pushover analsis

in recent years, seismic evaluation and vulnerability of the existing buildings, that have been designed based on an earlier seismic design code or designed without seismic design criteria, has been very important. in this paper, the seismic evaluation and vulnerability of concrete buildings, using an old 5- story building with shear walls as an example has been discussed. for this building, fi...
